During the summer holidays of 1992, fate brought Henry and Gwen together in Ndop. Before they met, Henry’s father—a passionate veterinary professional—used to send beef to Gwen’s father and would often joke that one of his sons should marry one of Mr. Chi’s daughters. At the time, Henry and Gwen didn’t know each other and were still quite young and innocent, unaware of what the future held. Their paths finally crossed when Henry, fresh out of the University of Dschang with a degree in Agricultural Engineering, visited a local shop to play games. Gwen, home from St. Augustine’s College, was helping at her mother’s restaurant nearby. Despite her youthfulness, Henry fell deeply in love with her. He quickly took steps to win her heart and gain the blessing of both families. After Gwen completed her A-Levels, they got married in Ndop—traditionally, legally, and religiously—with full family support. True to his word, Henry supported Gwen’s education, reassuring her parents that marriage wouldn’t hinder her dreams. With his encouragement, Gwen earned a bachelor’s degree and three master’s degrees, all with honors, while they raised their children together.
They have been blessed with three beautiful daughters, who are a great source of joy and pride. The couple is extremely grateful to God for His faithfulness and for the wonderful family they have built together. Over the past 30 years, they’ve built a life of mutual love, sacrifice, and unwavering faith in God. Though their journey has had its challenges, they remained committed—growing, laughing, and healing together. Their love endured through trials, not because they were perfect, but because they chose each other every day with grace and patience.
Spending 30 out of 50 years of a lifetime together is a blessing they cherish deeply. They continue to look at each other with love and gratitude, praying for God’s hand to guide them always. Indeed, God has been faithful—and they are forever thankful.
